Bettie Hall started her career as a technical writer and joined the STC in 1983 upon graduation from the University of Tennessee with a B.S. in Communications.
She spent the first 10 years of her career as a technical writer, which inspired her to continue her education and to venture into other career areas including project management, human resources, training, teaching, and consulting. She earned her doctorate in education in 2008 and is currently researching and writing about how technology serves professional communities of practice in sustaining innovative efforts. She is a former SWO Chapter Program Manager (1985-86), Vice President (1986-87) and President (1987-88) and was honored to receive the Chapter Service Award in 1998. She served for several years on the Chapter Competition committees, and made many treasured friends. She credits her early experiences as a technical writer for her ability to survive for more than 30 years in a dynamic and sometimes daunting employment landscape.
Bettie resides in Cincinnati with her husband of 41 years, spoils her yappy Papillon, and still edits everything her four, grown children write.
