Sylvia
Miller Wins the Distinguished SIG Service Award

by
Jane Smith, Phoenix Chapter
Sylvia
Miller assumed the position of Membership Manager nearly three years
ago when the SIG had not been very active. Through her initiative
and diligence, the SIG membership has grown. When Sylvia assumed
the position, she committed to catching up on welcome letters to
members who had joined the SIG within the prior year. In addition,
she has consistently sent out welcome letters and information to
members in an extremely timely manner, contributing significantly
to the growth of the SIG Membership to 2000 members as of October
2005.
As well as acting as Membership Manger, Sylvia has helped to manage
the online discussion group (listserv) and has been a regular, contributing
member of the leadership team. When she was unable to attend last
year’s conference in Seattle, Sylvia decided to contribute
to the SIG by completing the application for SIG of Distinction,
a task which took great commitment of time and energy.
As a Past-President of a Chapter, her experience and wisdom provides
sound guidance to us all. I frequently call Sylvia for advice on
operational policies and procedures. When I polled the Leadership
Team for nominee recommendations, Sylvia was clearly recognized
by the entire team for having made outstanding contributions.
Proposed Citation:
For your commitment to revitalizing the Instructional Design and
Learning SIG and continuing to increase its membership through your
SIG activities, consistent wisdom, and support.
Aside from this, Sylvia continues to provide excellent membership
services and help out in other areas when she can. Last year, she
prepared our SIG of Distinction award application. Until we had
a separate listserv manager, Sylvia handled that area as well. In
addition, she ensures that the membership information on the website
is up to date. She is a thoughtful, practical contributor on the
SIG Leadership Team, bringing, with two other Chapter Past-Presidents,
the wisdom and experience of that position and perspective. I value
her input and support tremendously. Not only that, she has become
a friend over the years.
