As I started preparing for next year, I wondered if any of you would like to join a committee or otherwise deepen your involvement with SWO next year. Most of you have been quite active in the past, and perhaps you needed to take a breather. If so, are you refreshed and wanting to get involved again?

Right now, I'm contacting our current volunteers to discern their intentions. I don't know all of our needs for next year, but I do know some of them:

• Newsletter staff. Right now, we have an editor. We mostly need writers. In particular, we could use some photos to dress up our newsletter. If you are a photographer, this could be an opportunity for you.

• Program committee members. Right now, our hard working chairperson does it all. Previous Program chairs had a committee. In particular, we could use someone to scope out potential meeting places in the Dayton area.

• Publications Competition committee members. We would like to revive the publications/online/art competitions next year. We need interested people to help plan and set them up. I know a lot of people would like to see the competitions happen again, but we need "feet on the street" to get them rolling.

• Scholarship committee members. We would like to revive the scholarships next year. Previously, we awarded three scholarships each year: one to a community college student, one to an undergraduate, and one to a graduate student. As with the competitions, we have some interest but we need you to put energy into the program.

• Special event / Employment Fair committee members. We'd like to have a special Employment Fair on Saturday, like we did in 2004. A successful fair takes a lot of planning and a lot of helping hands.
