In
this day and age, we are constantly bombarded with spam,
telemarketing calls, and Internet snooping. Luckily, we are
not defenseless. Click here for
a great site that helps get you off of some of those spam
lists. The federal government also has a Web site, allowing
you to opt out of telephone solicitation for free. It's fast
and easy and can be found at www.donotcall.gov.
There are good,
free programs available to stop Internet snooping, programs
to prevent your browser from being hijacked, and tools to
remove spyware from your computer. So, without
further adieu, let's take a look at these one at a time.
First we'll
tackle those scumbags that hijack browsers and change homepages.
download Browser Hijack Blaster. It prevents your browser
from being hijacked and your Internet Explorer
settings
from
being
changed.The program is small and
runs in
the background, meaning it will not take up any space on
your desktop.
Next,
we'll take a look at those snoops out there that track your
activity
while you are on the Internet. They like to target
advertising to us based on our browsing habits. Sometimes
the ads take
the
form of
pop-up ads. Here's a nifty little tool that sends tracking
information to dead ends. Click here to
download the free program, Silencer 1.0.
By the way, if you aren't already using a pop-up preventing
program, I suggest you download the free program called NoAds.
download NoAds. Another program you can use is called
Pop-Up Stopper
is what
I use, but the latest version is unfortunately not free.
