Region 4 Update
Amanda Cross, Newsletter Editor of the Hoosier Chapter, provided the following information.

Things are going pretty well in the Hoosier chapter. We just had our organizational meeting, and we have some big plans for the coming year and a growing volunteer base. We're focusing on ways to maintain our chapter in the face of The Transformation without shutting out nonmembers or charging for meetings. Currently we have enough money in the bank to keep us going for a few years while we ride out the storm, but we're already looking into other ways to maintain financial solvency if we need to. For example, we've got an arrangement with Amazon.com to send the Hoosier chapter a referral fee when people click through HoosierSTC.org to Amazon.com to buy books.

The job market is getting better in this area. After several nearly silent months on the Hoosier job board, we've been consistently enjoying 2-5 postings on the board at a time for the last few months. The pharmaceutical industry in this area always has openings, because Eli Lilly can keep contractors on for only 18-months at a time (after a year off, you can go back for another 18-month stint). Anecdotally, a friend of mine lost his job and had a job at Lilly less than a week later, before his severance pay from his previous job had run out!
