A Letter From the Editor
by Denise Roberts

This issue marks the beginning to a new program year for SWO-STC and Between the Lines. As you read this issue, you probably will notice a common topic: Change. The society as a whole is changing, our chapter is changing, and even this newsletter publication is changing. This year, Between the Lines will be published bimonthly in both an electronic and printable version. Although the formatting may differ from the electronic to printable version, the content of both newsletters will remain the same.

We have two new members onboard the Between the Lines staff. Please welcome Diane Burke, a media designer from Convergys in Cincinnati. She will be designing and developing the printable version of our newsletter. Also welcome Stacey Scott, a recent Miami University Alumni. Stacey will be working closely with Diane to ensure the quality of the printable version of the newsletter.

Many of us are making changes to our personal and professional lives. For instance, Diane is spending the next three weeks out in Thailand helping to build houses. Even I started taking classes at night to earn that higher degree. My question to you is how will you mark this new year? If you could revise your “day-to-day,” how would it be different?

I challenge you to mark this new year with change. If you spend an hour or two a night watching TV, you have the time to make a difference in your life. STC is always looking for volunteers. Becoming active in our chapter will grow you professionally. Not only will you learn new things through the program, but also you will be recognized for your work and be able to network with other professionals in your field. I could not even begin to list the many professionals I have met through this organization just by volunteering to do this newsletter. Sylvia Miller is looking for SIG liaisons (see “Introducing SIG Activities at the Local Level.” Between the Lines is looking for another columnist for this newsletter. If your company offers a little tuition reimbursement, you can take a class on one of those new tools being used at work, or maybe just a class that interests you.

I would enjoy reading how you plan on marking this new year with change, or even help you come with some ideas on things you could do. Feel free to email me with your questions and comments at newsletter@stc-swo.org.
