President’s
Message
by Sarah Wigser
It amazes me how quickly each calendar year goes by—but I'm
even more amazed at how quickly the STC year goes by! Once again,
it’s time to start thinking about another year. Most everyone
knows that SWO is a volunteer-run organization. I’ve said
it before, and I’ll probably say it at least one more time
before May, but our chapter is only as strong as our volunteers.
Maybe it’s time for you to step up and volunteer.
- Do
it Because You Want To:
Not to impress your boss or pump up your résumé.
Volunteering is a non-paid job that needs to be taken seriously.
- Do
it to Learn Something New: Volunteering gives you the
opportunity to step out and try something new, or to hone your
skills in a new field.
- Do
it to Give Back: Perhaps you are a public relations guru
who can update our chapter brochure or a planning expert can spare
a couple hours to plan a monthly meeting. Volunteering allows
you to give back to the both the local chapter and the local technical
communication community.
- Do
it to Gain Leadership Skills and Experience: It’s
a great way to overcome shyness, learn team work, and develop
networking abilities.
- Do
it Because You’re Already Qualified:
All you need is the desire to give back and the interest to serve.
