STC Receives Prestigious Diana Award!

STC has been chosen as the 2004 recipient of the prestigious Diana Award by the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Computer Documentation (ACM SIGDOC). The ACM SIGDOC gives the Diana Award to an organization that has made an outstanding lifetime contribution to the field of user documentation. (Please visit www.acm.org/sigdoc/awards.html to see details.) STC Executive Director Peter Herbst will attend the ACM SIGDOC conference in Memphis, Tennessee, October 10-13 to receive the award. This is an award for STC at every level--board, chapter leaders, membership, and office staff. Congratulations to all of you--it's an honor well deserved!

The board also approved an STC anti-discrimination policy. The policy will be published in the next version of the STC Administrative Directory and posted on the Society Web site.

Region 4 Conference

The Pittsburgh chapter is hosting the Region 4 conference on Saturday April 17th. This one-day conference explores some "out of the box" roles that technical communicators perform today, looks at the latest technology trends, and examines aspects of technical communication you may want to consider in the future. The conference includes a keynote session and a choice of several breakout sessions. Go to http://www.stcpgh.org/conference/index.html for all the details.

If you are interested in carpooling to Pittsburgh send an email to president@stc-swo.org. Sarah will help members get in touch with each other.

Distinguished SIG Service Award (DSSA)

In 2002, the Society initiated a formal awards program to recognize the commitment and hard work of members of its special interest groups (SIGs). The award recognizes length of SIG membership, consistency of service over the time of membership, and variety of service. Go to http://www.stc.org/awards_DSSA.asp for more information.
