Welcome to STC-SWO

Welcome to the Southwestern Ohio chapter of STC. Our mission is to promote and advance the technical communication profession in Southwestern Ohio while recruiting and supporting members by providing professional development, networking, employment resources, and leadership opportunities.

Chapter Meetings & Events

STC-SWO holds monthly meetings between September and May that feature speakers and programs on topics of interest to technical communicators.

May Meeting: A Tour of O'Neil & Associates and Member Recognition

On Thursday, May 22nd, please join us for our final meeting of the year (and some free pizza!) just off I-75 in south Dayton. O’Neil and Associates is a Miamisburg-based company that employs more than 100 technical writers. The company develops, delivers, integrates, and analyzes product support information for a variety of DoD, aerospace, and commercial manufacturers. In recent years, this has included interactive electronic manuals, Web-based environments, diagnostic systems, e-learning, and content management systems, as well as traditional paper-based manuals. O'Neil technical writers and analysts often do complete disassembly, reassembly, and testing of equipment to ensure all procedures are correct, clearly written, and well illustrated. In the last 20 years the company has doubled about every 5 to 6 years. The company has grown 50% in the last 15 months from 200 employees to now over 300.

O'Neil and Associates has graciously offered to host our May meeting AND provide pizza and beverage at no cost to attendees. Following pizza and our member recognition for the 2007-2008 year, O’Neil has invited us to participate in a guided tour of their facility.Register now! Deadline is noon on May 16.

April Meeting - Wikis and Blogs in Technical Communication

Many of us don't know a wiki from a widget. However, learning the difference could give you and your company a communication advantage. Wikis are easy (and cheap) to set up, and can be a great tool for internal collaboration and knowledge management (KM). At our April 16 meeting, we will look at KM principles and discuss how Wikis can be used manage your company's knowledge assets. We'll discuss the ins and outs, and pros and cons of Wikis, as well as other widely available and inexpensive KM tools such as SharePoint, blogs, and intranets. Register now! Deadline is noon on April 14.
